Trading involves substantial risk and is not suitable for everyone. VeloTape is for journaling and analytics only — we do not provide investment advice or trade recommendations.

Futures and forex trading contains substantial risk and is not for every investor. An investor could potentially lose all or more than the initial investment. Risk capital is money that can be lost without jeopardizing ones' financial security or lifestyle. Only risk capital should be used for trading and only those with sufficient risk capital should consider trading. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results.

Hypothetical performance results have many inherent limitations, some of which are described below. No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to those shown; in fact, there are frequently sharp differences between hypothetical performance results and the actual results subsequently achieved by any particular trading program. One of the limitations of hypothetical performance results is that they are generally prepared with the benefit of hindsight. In addition, hypothetical trading does not involve financial risk, and no hypothetical trading record can completely account for the impact of financial risk of actual trading. For example, the ability to withstand losses or to adhere to a particular trading program in spite of trading losses are material points which can also adversely affect actual trading results. There are numerous other factors related to the markets in general or to the implementation of any specific trading program which cannot be fully accounted for in the preparation of hypothetical performance results and all of which can adversely affect trading results.

Auto sync

Import trades with broker sync

One-time setup in IBKR Client Portal, then paste your credentials in VeloTape. After the first sync, run Sync again anytime to refresh your journal.

Same-day fills may take until the next business day to appear in Flex. Use CSV upload below if you need today’s trades immediately.

1

Open Flex Queries in IBKR

  1. Log in to IBKR Client Portal.
  2. Go to Performance & Reports → Flex Queries.
  3. Keep this page open — you will create a query and generate a token here.

  4. Copy the token under Current Token — you will paste it in VeloTape once.

Additional information

Date and time formats (reference)

IBKR’s defaults — Date yyyyMMdd, Time HHmmss, and semi-colon separator — work with VeloTape. You shouldn’t need to change them. If import fails with a date or time error, verify these settings in your Flex Query match the values below.

IssueWhat to try
Invalid date or time on importIn the Flex query, set Date yyyyMMdd, Time HHmmss, separator semi-colon, include column headers, export again, and re-upload.
Missing commissions or feesEdit the query and include IB Commission and Taxes in the Executions fields.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need TWS or IB Gateway?
No. Flex sync uses IBKR’s web API with your Query ID and token only.
Does VeloTape store my IBKR password?
No. Auto-sync uses the Flex token and Query ID. They are encrypted and only used when you sync.
How often should I sync?
After the first import, click Sync now whenever you want fresh data. Same-day activity may appear on the next IBKR report cycle.
Can I connect multiple IBKR accounts?
Yes. Create one VeloTape trading account per IBKR account and link each with its own credentials.
Auto sync or CSV — which should I use?
Auto sync is best for ongoing journaling. CSV is useful for a one-off import or when you need trades before Flex publishes them.
